"I have a strange but not serious problem with the keyboard shortcut for triggering sleep. I own a Mac Pro (early 2009) running OS X 10.6.8. When I select Sleep from the Apple menu or press control-eject and click the Sleep button (or type 's'), the Mac immediately sleeps. However, if I type option-command-eject, my Mac starts to sleep, but three seconds later the hard drive spins up and the Mac wakes up. My 2008 Mac Pro has the same issue. My hunch is that it's an interaction between particular optical drives and a Snow Leopard point update. It started happening for me when I replaced the optical drive - under warranty, using an Apple supplied Optiarc AD-7170A unit. I got in touch with Apple about it, but even though it never did it with the old drive, they insisted that I clean install SL before they would do anything else and I didn't feel like wasting all that time on something that was obviously not it. What I have found though, is that it doesn't happen if you open and close the drive at some point while the computer is awake." MacInTouch 9:35 AM
