KGI Raises Apples Unit Sales Estimates

This article is more than 7 years old.

AppleInsider says they have received a report from KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo showing an increase in estimated Apple unit sales.

The research firm had been estimating unit sales of 65 million but has now raised estimates to between 70 million and 75 million thanks to the dual camera on the iPhone 7 and also due to the recall of the Galaxy Note 7 (exploding batteries).

On the flip side, the analyst says that the carrier sell-outs and strong demand from consumers can be explained by the larger amount of countries Apple launched the iPhone 7 in and also due to the fact that carrier promotions leading to better sales. The firm advocates profit-taking.

Other Asian analysts have said that carrier promotions should enable Apple to seize the numero uno spot in the smart phone market and that South Korean suppliers had orders for components to build 80 to 85 million units before Apple launched the iPhone 7.

However, the increased demand for the phones has led to an increase in orders by 15-25% which translates to between 96.5 million and 103.2 million units by year end using 82.5 million units as the mid-point.

Finally, Piper's Gene Munster has said that his checks at a 134 Apple stores show limited inventory and that data point is viewed a positive.

Also, Apple had released a statement saying that the iPhone 7 was globally sold out opening weekend.

Finally, T-Mobile USA head honcho has said iPhone sales were phenomenal and he added that iPhone 7 orders were up 4x compared to iPhone 6  last year.

So, before getting swallowed up by the negativity, be sure to weigh the other side of the equation as well.

Words to the wise.
