Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update and new firmware roll out to HP Elite x3

Last month, HP said that the Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update would be made available for its Elite x3 "on or about September 13" - but last week, the company quietly deleted all references to that date, saying instead that it would arrive "in the coming weeks". Shortly after that, Windows Central reported that Microsoft had delayed all sales of the Elite x3 until mid-October, pending the arrival of a firmware update for the device.

Microsoft had previously delayed the release date of the Elite x3 to September 26 - but yesterday, exactly as promised, it opened general sales of the device. And in more good news for Elite x3 buyers, HP also rolled out its firmware update for the device, along with the Anniversary Update.

The Anniversary Update bumps the OS build number up to 14393.189, while the new firmware version is 0002.0000.00067.0088. It brings new features to the device, including new support for the LED charging indicator, and double-tap to wake, as well as improving performance and fixing a problem that previously caused the camera to crash.

The Elite x3 is now available from the Microsoft Store in the US priced at $799, which includes the Desk Dock accessory. However, after several weeks without stock, HP.com still isn't selling the device, only offering buyers the option of being notified when it's available to buy again.

The Elite x3 is also available in some other markets, although it seems to be in very short supply. In the UK, for example, HP.com says it won't ship for "5-10 working days", while the Microsoft Store is out of stock, and advising customers to buy an Acer Liquid Jade Primo instead.
