Apple Releases macOS Sierra 10.12.1 Beta 2 Build 16B2333a

Apple has just seeded macOS Sierra 10.12.1 beta 2 build 16B2333a to registered developers of Apple Developer Program. Here are the details.

This second release comes just a week after the first macOS Sierra 10.12.1 beta was released to those enrolled on Apple’s Developer Program and Beta Software Program, and will hopefully give those developers and testers a chance to not only test the platform, but to also report any issues found directly back to Apple.

As was the case with macOS Sierra 10.12.1 beta 1, the main main focus of this second beta appears to be predominantly on providing a smoother macOS experience for all of those who have actually downloaded and installed the platform. Rather than look to add in any new features or outward-facing changes, Apple has focused on implementing the obligatory bug and internal fixes that should hopefully eradicate some of the initial issues that have been found with the live version that’s currently available via the Mac App Store as a free-of-charge install.

One interesting aspect and inclusion, which is also included in the latest iOS 10.1 developer builds in test, is the inclusion of support for viewing photos taken using the new Portrait feature that users can interact with on the iPhone 7 Plus.

With that new feature, lucky iPhone 7 Plus owners are able to take photos using the dual-lens camera system with real-time depth-of-field and bokeh effects in place, similar to what can be achieved on high-end DSLR cameras. The rest of the update appears to be the aforementioned big fixes and performance enhancements. As is generally the case with this type of point update, if any new features become known, we will instantly make sure that they are brought directly to your attention.

As is always the case, developers with an existing beta build of macOS on their iMac or MacBook, which basically means macOS Sierra 10.12.1 beta 1, can grab the latest release directly from the Mac App Store. Alternatively, the installation file can also be downloaded and installed directly from Apple’s Developer Program portal if necessary.

Update x1: macOS Sierra 10.12.1 beta 2 is available to those testers registered on Apple Beta Software Program as well.
