Pokémon Go update offers catch bonuses, making it easier to catch rarer creatures

An update to Pokémon Go means that you now get rewarded for collecting medals, providing ‘catch bonuses’ for certain types of Pokémon that make it easier to catch rarer ones. As Eurogamer explains it:

For example, earning the bronze Kindler medal – by catching 10 Fire Pokémon – will increase your chances of capturing Fire creatures in future, with additional bonuses available when unlocking silver and gold tiers.

The update also makes training more accessible …

Trainers can now bring six Pokémon to battle at friendly Gyms. The CP of the Pokémon you are battling may be temporarily adjusted lower for your training session.

Finally, there are some minor additional improvements:

  • Egg & Incubator Screens: These will periodically update the distance walked without the Trainer needing to close and reopen the screen.
  • Fixed several audio issues.
  • Decreased the evolution animation time.
  • Minor fixes

The app added a Candy-awarding ‘Buddy’ feature last month, and will be coming to the Apple Watch later this year.

Pokémon Go is a free download from iTunes, but with some hefty in-app purchases available.
