Mozilla wraps single Firefox private tab into new Focus browser for iOS

No menus, no tabs, no content tracking in new web browsing app from Mozilla that doubles as an iOS content blocker.

Eleven months ago, Mozilla unveiled its content blocker for iOS under the name Focus by Firefox, and today the browser maker has added a web view to the app and rebranded it.

Now known as Firefox Focus, the trimmed down web browser app offers a single private browsing session with minimal user interface chrome.

Mozilla boasted in a blog post that the app offered no tabs, no menus, and no popups.

"Firefox Focus is set by default to block many of the trackers that follow you around the Web. You don't need to change privacy or cookie settings," the company said. "Much of what makes mobile web pages slow is the technology used to track users on the web. Because Firefox Focus blocks these trackers, it is likely you'll notice a performance boost on the many sites that track your behavior."

The app remains able to function as a content blocker on iOS.

Earlier in the week, Mozilla released Firefox 50, which added a built-in emoji set for operating systems such as Windows and Linux that are without native emoji fonts; increased the use of WebGL for Windows users, and added download protection for a number of executable files.
