iPhone 7 Plus owners report overheating and black screen camera issues

Apple fanboys :D I can't believe how one corporation has so many blind followers.

Planar Summilux - It has a pretty good camera. But also the apps are great. Plus they are by far the fastest smartphones in terms of single core performance, which makes the biggest impact on day-to-day use. The combination makes them superior over all. Also if you are a software dev, I think you'll find Apple's dev tools are much better, making the device over all much easier to customize (by writing your own apps). A jailbroken iPhone can be further customized with almost infinite variety.

Planar Summilux - my iPhone is not my best camera, but it is the best camera which I have always with me, allowing me to capture unexpected moments of beauty with reasonable quality.
I recently stumbled upon this scene while walking to the office. Happy I had my 2 generations old iPhone on me! And no, I will not be carrying a high quality compact in my suit pocket for those moments. IPhone suffices:

This other one was taken a number of months ago in an airport train, while coming back from a business trip. The hipstamatic app could do a nice conversion to black and white. Also happy I had my iphone with me:

im not sure this " best camera you have with you" flies, if you make a point of never making the effort to have reasonably sized real camera with you, possessing a respectable sensor... and respectable lens
the sensor in iphones is among the smallest used in cell phones , its a poor instrument, for general photography in spite of the hype of ad campaigns and sites like this one endlessly pushing its use.

their are countless new and used cameraas tiny and pocketable, the only reason not to have one is a watery commitment to photography or mental and physical laziness and a lack of commitment to the craft

People's fault too. I'm surprised with how money people upgrade their Apple devices every year.

This is why it doesn't pay to be an early adopter. Wait for the guinea pigs to rush in and buy up the early stock. Then, as new firmware and fixes roll out, you will know when the right time to buy that product will be. Its unfortunate that it has come to this, but at least doing it this way is easy peasy.

Effectively, these companies have cut the testing short, and left it for the early adopters to do the reliability and the functional testing for them!

Other folks, please let's leave the hate out of the comments. My OM (opening message) did not target any specific manufacturer. These blunders are not restricted to one brand or the other.

Don't care what they do with their engineers, we want the latest tech at the lowest price. That's the American way.

If you can afford the early adopter premium or want to test, be my guest. I will wait for it to come down in price or bugs sorted.

They destroy companies, or bring them to the edge of destruction. They cripple the engineers, cut their budgets to the bones, and when things go wrong the first thing they do is lay off the engineers.

Not one bean counter can design and engineer a single product.

Plenty of examples. Kodak, Polaroid, GE (cheating Jack Walsh), GM (Roger Smith, and later followers), ... Ford barely escaped bankruptcy, where Mark Fields was laying off engineers left and right as his brilliant solution, while he was receiving $millions in rewards. Ford survived by snatching Alan Mulally from Boeing to lead the company (he is an engineer, by the way), and bring back to profitability.

Enron, and many more, are examples of bean counters in non-engineering environments.
Google "Enron scandal" for an example of what bean counters do to us all.
Let alone bringing the country, and the world, to the edge of bankruptcy in 2008-2009.

Lovely rhetoric, but ultimately meaningless. Let us not make out the engineers to be some paragons of virtue. The "bean counters" who can't engineer a single product are the same "bean counters" that can't engineer Volkswagen diesel motors that fake their emission rates. With all due respect, sh, in your ideal world I am certain that engineers would produce the best products one could wish for by the time nobody would need them anymore. It reminds me of something my supervisor once said, "There are two types of Ph.D.s: a great one and a finished one."

Interesting - I've never had anything but exemplary service. Have had my 2011 MacBook Pro replaced with brand new laptop, one iPhone 4+ replaced because the headphone jack got loose over time, and several MacBook batteries replaced, all absolutely free.

I've only had superb experiences with Apple. Maybe the problem is you.

Apple is top rated in industry in customer service. I had a problem with my MacBook which was essentially my fault, they gave me a brand new one overnight.

That's what they suggested, too. Apple's warranty will not cover any physical damage, because their devices are apparently built faultless. Well, according to their engineers anyway.

Several years ago I screwed up my MacBook Pro while installing RAM. It was two weeks after the warranty expired. I called up Apple to see how much they would need to fix it and they let me buy AppleCare retroactively. Three days after I sent it off it came back with a new mother board and I saved about $500.

Of course Stacey....as Apple has one of the highest ratings for service...that ismwhat I am saying. My apologies...I thought you were on my ignore list for ages for your sarcastic drivel. Let me verify it this time.

@DarkShift, can you tell us detail on what was the problem?

I think apple service is pretty good. I have a refurbuished iMac 2013 27", the hinge was broken since few months ago after roughly 2 years of use, i got it fixed few weeks ago for free (out of warranty). I googled online, they said it was design fault thats why they fixed for free.
We are photographers, we know things can be seen in different way. From negative side, people may say they never tell people about that hinge problem. What I take away is, i bought a refurbished item that I love, and they even fixed things for free. all i need is make an appointment and leave it there for few days.

Now any other tech company can do that? Please share with your case.

But it seems you are not the only one has this strange problem, honestly, i can't believe it, but people describe in detail, i guess I am sorry to doubt you and I have to believe this happens, but it doesn't sound logical, it must have a reason. I doubt its because the aluminum bend easily between hot and cold temperature, and super thin casing make it much easier to be bent....? I dunno. ;-)

A comment such as yours communicates one of two things to the person reading it... 1) yours isn't having a problem, which is a pointless comment to make as the article quite clearly points out that it's "some" owners of the phone and it can be inferred it's a very minimal percentage as the problem hasn't even had a recall issued by Apple (it was also a very teeny tiny percentage of Note 7 owners who had an issue as well) or 2) you don't believe the problem exists because your device is fine which would be a ridiculous way to go through life - thinking that if something doesn't apply to you, it applies to no one.
Maybe there's another interpretation of your comment, but I'm sure it's equally worthless as the above 2 possibilities.

Who said they can be or even have to be better than a standalone counterpart? Your logic is that because an iphone camera isn't as good technically as a DSLR there's no point in having it on your phone? Seriously? Lets take off the web browser because it's not as good as using a desktop pc too shall we? And ditch the GPS because a standalone GPS will get a lock faster.

rather be from that then spend 12 hours a day with my nose in the phone looking at memes on memebook and reading about how often people on my wall have been to the toilet and what they are currently doing.

Obviously you have an issue with smartphones not just having a camera in a smartphone.

Don't you think people should decide how they spend( or waste) their time? Just like you spend (or waste) time on forums arguing with strangers!

Hardly comparable situations. Still have to find an iOS device that blows up like this year's Sammys.

Both companies have dropped their share of clangers, I suppose it was grimly predictable that some people would try and turn this into a brand fight though.

FWIW there has been a lot of report of iphones spontaneously combusting recently too if you care to check.

It's the unfortunate reality of trying to push lithium battery technology to the limits in terms of capacity/size and charging times.

These batteries are fundamentally the same as the lipo batteries used in radio controlled models which are notoriously feared and respected for the destructive capabilities. The only difference is phone batteries have built in protective circuitry to prevent them being over charged or discharged but if that circuitry goes wrong or things are pushed too close to the limit then they will surely fail and vent out flames like any lipo cell.

The real answer in the long run will be to invest money in superior battery technologies instead of relying on a technology that is cheap and easy.

Plenty of iPhones blowing up too, so many in fact China is investigating Apple. People hear what they want to hear though. Same old Apple broken record "we're perfect, must be user error" initial response.
