AMD Launches VE.GA, Will Reveal Vega High-End Graphics Details Soon
To prepare gamers for the arrival of Vega, it has launched a new website, aptly named VE.GA, which is home to a new teaser video:
In the video, we see a young boy walking through the streets with a drum, as posters and graffiti adorn walls around him. There are slogans like #Bettered, “VR is not just for the 1%”, and “Join the Radeon rebellion” shown prominently in the video. The video ends by encouraging gamers to “Make Some Noise”.
Luckily, we won’t have to wait much longer to see what all the fuss is about, as AMD has posted a countdown timer on the site which shows that we have a little less than three days before the Vega Architecture Preview goes live.
The preview should bring some clarity to the speculation that we’ve been reading about for months. Rumors suggest that the Vega 10 will have 64 compute units and 24 TFLOPs of half-precision 16-bit compute performance (12 TFLOPs single-precision). TDP for high-end SKUs is pegged at around 225 wats using a 14nm FinFET manufacturing process. It’s also expected that that cards will sport up to 16GB of HBM2 memory, with 512GB/sec of memory bandwidth.
There will, however, be dual GPU Vega 10 graphics cards marketed as well, with computational power ranging from about 18 TFLOPs to 20 TFLOPs (single-precision).
But just as AMD is gearing up to launch Vega, NVIDIA will soon pull the wraps off the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. NVIDIA first hinted at the card, which is expected to offer Titan X performance for less money, in a LinkedIn posting. Since that time, the company has taken to it official site to offer additional teasers.
