Battery life won’t be enough for Apple Watch Series Three

Jonny Evans

Watching Apple since 1999. I don't say what they should do. I say what they might do. They sometimes do.

I’m personally happy with my Apple Watch 2 not containing a SIM. If it had one I could not use my watch at work as I cannot have a phone one me in secured areas. Also not having a camera allows me to wear it at work.

I don’t care if the Apple Watch Series 3 can go an extra day or two before requiring charging. I only charge for about an hour every day and half anyway. But extra battery that allows an always on screen would be useful.

Are you seriously going to regularly leave you phone behind? Until our watch becomes our only data connection (which is still a number of years out) it is simply a waste to have it have it’s own sim card. Will it have it’s own phone number? or will this be a data only sim that only works for calls if you have a VOIP capable cell phone? How much are you willing to pay over and above your current cell phone data/voice plan.

This reminds me of my desire for a camera on the watch before I owned one. I wanted to Dick Tracy FaceTime on it. But now I realize how stupid that would be. The same can be said for a data sim. Sure I’d love to be connected to my phone even if I left it behind, but I wouldn’t pay an extra even $10/month for the benefit, because I normally want a larger screen than a watch will provide. So 99% of the time….I’ll have my phone and I’m not paying up for the 1%.

Sure, 5-7 years from now. When I can get 2 day battery life on my 5G AppleWatch 6 with 100MB throughput and the iPhone is now the iPad Micro that relies on my watch for connectivity, I’ll be right there with you.

I would sometimes. For example if I’m going to the beach or pool. The Series 2 is waterproof so it can stay on my wrist and I don’t have to worry about it. But what do I do with my iPhone. Also, if I’m out walking or running, leaving the iPhone behind seems sensible as long as I can remain in contact with the world for emergencies.

Looks like Samsung is beating Apple to the punch here with the Gear S3 curved watch that has full phone features and data feature allowing you to leave the phone behind 🙂 Sad but Apple is definitely falling behind here.

It always looks like Smasung is beating Apple to the punch — they read the same rumours and then rush product to market — and their products turn out to be poorly made, ill thought out, and in some cases, explode.
