apple-macbook-pro-2The max amount of RAM that you can stuff in Apple’s new MacBook Pros is 16GB. The reason behind this, according to Apple’s Phil Schiller, is that more RAM could lead to poorer battery life. The good news is that if you are after 32GB of RAM, that option could be made available later this year.

This is according to a recent investor’s note released by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in which he states that he expects 2017’s MacBook Pro refresh to offer up a 32GB RAM option. However before you get too excited, it seems that Kuo believes that this option will only be given to the 15-inch MacBook Pro, so 13-inch models look like they could miss out on this.

He also adds that Apple could be adopting desktop-class RAM which is aimed more at users who need the performance. Kuo’s note also claims that 2017’s MacBook Pro refresh will also include Intel’s latest Kaby Lake processors. This is actually not the first time Kuo has predicted 32GB options.

Late last year Kuo stated that 2017’s MacBook Pros are expected to be cheaper and offer 32GB of RAM, but his latest report does offer up a bit more detail, such as how the 32GB option could be limited to the 15GB model. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but if you do want 32GB of RAM in your laptop, then maybe you should hold out for 2017’s refresh.
