How my iPhone keeps me organised on a daily basis

I wonder if the iPhone was originally designed to replace The likes of the Filofax and palm pilot in terms of being an organiser? Well for me it has.

My iPhone is paramount in organising my daily life. I use email, calendar and Google tasks to organise my day-to-day schedule and tasks. Without my iPhone I know I would be forgetting a great deal of important reminders and tasks.

One of the best tips I ever learned was to use email as a task manager. An example would be in the subject line I tend to put the word “TODO” yes in CAPS as it’s easier to identify followed by whatever the task is I need to complete. I will then perform a search of my email and up will come the tasks that I need to complete. I can then mark them as completed or move them into a folder to project manage.

Another great use is the fact that my iPhone comes with me everywhere, it is also my camera. I can be in a shop, spot something that I need to purchase, some ideas about a present perhaps, take a photograph of it and then upload it in an email, Mark it as a task [as I have outlined above] and then I will access the email which includes the attachments of the photograph categorised as a task. As I mentioned I can then perform a search of of email that I have marked as a task and I am then reminded of whatever it is I need to purchase or do.

In addition, Google Tasks is also very good and I usually use this for medium-to-long term goalsetting and task management. The reason I use Google Tasks is that it can synchronise across all of my computers whether it be my iPad, MacBook or iPhone.

I always used to think that my Filofax and PalmPilot were the perfect companion and accessory to keeping me organised but since the introduction of the iPhone, 10 years ago, I have moved away from traditional methods of organisation and have embraced the iPhone to manage my tasks. I have also found, through third-party apps such as Google Tasks and use of my email that I am more organised using my iPhone, so as you can see my phone is very much worth it’s weight in gold when it comes to task management and keeping me organised.
