Apple Seeds tvOS 10.2 Beta 2 And watchOS 3.2 Beta 2

With today’s immediately release of tvOS 10.2 beta 2 for Apple TV 4 devices as well as watchOS 3.2 for Apple Watch, Apple has given developers a little something extra to sink their teeth into.

Both releases follow hot on the heels of initial betas released in the last couple of weeks, and instantly show Apple’s commitment to progression of both the platforms alongside iOS, which incidentally is also in a pre-release stage with iOS 10.3.

tvOS 10.2 Beta 2

tvOS is one of Apple’s most impressive and fastest growing platforms, meaning any update is always an exciting one, but that doesn’t mean that it has to be packed to the rafters with features and outward-facing additions. In fact, according to Apple’s own release notes, tvOS 10.2 is largely about bug fixes, and general improvements in the operating system and associated SDK offered to developers. Those changes come in the form of accelerated schooling support for apps built on top of UIKIT and TVMLKit, as well as added support for the VideoToolBox framework, meaning we should see apps that offer significantly enhanced video experiences.

First timers for beta installation on Apple TV 4 will need to connect the device to their computer using a USB-C to USB-A cable, download the installation file from developer.apple.com using Apple Developer credentials, and install it directly to the device using iTunes.

watchOS 3.2 Beta 2

Alongside beta 2 of iOS 10.3 and tvOS 10.2, Apple has seeded watchOS 3.2 for Apple Watch users as well. watchOS 3.2 is a relatively minor update bringing in couple of new additions such as new ‘Theater Mode‘ which basically makes Watch usable in dark environments such as movie cinemas, along with SiriKit support so that developers can add Siri functionality, such as ability to schedule rides etc., right in their native third-party Watch apps.

To download watchOS 3.2, simply launch Watch app on a connected iPhone with a configuration profile for watchOS installed and head to General > Software Update to grab the latest OTA update.
