Prices of AMD’s upcoming Ryzen lineup of processors have reportedly leaked earlier today, providing us with a glimpse into how the company plans to position its new chips against Intel’s.

In the past, AMD has been quite a fan of aggressively priced chipsets, but if the information that got leaked today is correct, then Ryzen hit the shelves with a higher price tag than the majority of its predecessors.

Specifically, the documents that reached the web on reddit via VideoCards reveal what could be the prices of three different Ryzen models, with the top configuration reaching $490.

According to this leak, the Ryzen 1700 would cost $316, while the 1700x would be more expensive and come with a price tag of $381. The top-of-the-line 1800X, which will be marketed as a rival to Intel’s Core i7-6900K, will be sold for $490.

Ryzen versions

While it’s too early to tell if this leak is accurate or not, it appears to come in line with previous reports on Ryzen, also coming through unofficial channels.

It is believed that AMD is aiming for three different categories of Ryzen processors, as it follows.

First of all, we have the R3 with 4 different versions, namely R3 1100, R3 1100 Pro, R3 1200 Pro, and R3 1200X. All chips in the R3 lineup have 4 cores and 4 threads, with clock speed ranging in between 3.1GHz and 3.4GHz.

Then, it’s the R5 series, which comes in two different versions. First up, we have the R5 Pro 1300, R5 1300, R5 Pro 1400, and R5 1400X with 4 cores and 8 threads, clock speeds between 3.2 GHz and 3.5 GHz, and second, there are the R5 Pro 1500, R5 1500, R5 Pro 1600, and R5 1600X, with 6 cores and 12 threads.

The top-of-the-line models are included in the R7 series, which groups the R7 Pro 1700, R7 1700, R7 1700X, R7 Pro 1800X, and R7 1800X. All come with 8 cores and 16 threads, with a maximum speed of 3.6 GHz.

Full pricing details and a confirmation of whether this lineup of processors is accurate or not will be provided in just a few weeks when AMD takes the wraps of the new chips.

Exclusively supported by Windows 10

Ryzen will work exclusively with Windows 10, despite all the rumors spreading across the web lately and indicating that AMD might develop Windows 7 drivers as well.

Speculation had it that AMD was planning to develop its own Ryzen drivers for Windows 7, but this information was denied by the company itself, which explained that the new chips would only support Windows 10.

This way, AMD comes in line with a decision announced by Microsoft in 2016 and also involving Intel, as the Redmond-based software giant is making Windows 10 (or the latest version of the operating system) mandatory for the newest-generation chipsets.
