HP teases a new, larger version of its Windows 10 Mobile Continuum Lap Dock for the Elite x3

At last week's Mobile World Congress, HP briefly showed a new version of the Elite x3, its Windows 10 Mobile flagship that went on sale last August. The updated model includes only a handful of design revisions: its front camera has been repositioned; it appears to have slightly thinner bezels; and it no longer has the metallic 'chin' at the bottom of the device, which has also resulted in the loss of the B&O co-branding for its audio features.

But as Windows Blog Italia Notebook Italia spotted, HP also teased a new, larger version of its Lap Dock accessory for the Elite x3 at MWC. The Lap Dock supports Windows 10 Mobile's PC-like Continuum feature on the go, allowing users to connect their handset to the laptop-style device.

This is the current version of the Lap Dock, priced at $599, and featuring a 12.5-inch display:

And here is the new version of the Lap Dock, clearly sporting a larger display - perhaps around 14-inches in size:

The new dock also features a revised hinge design, and a larger trackpad with dedicated left/right click buttons, as well as full-size USB Type-A ports, rather than the Type-C ports on the current, smaller Lap Dock:

As with the 'refreshed' Elite x3, the new Lap Dock also seems to have lost its B&O branding (previously positioned below the keyboard). However, there's still no touchscreen support, and no integrated webcam on the new dock.

HP has not yet revealed any details regarding its plans for the updated Elite x3 or the new Lap Dock, and it's unclear if the existing Lap Dock will be discontinued, or if it will be sold alongside the new model as a more compact and affordable option.
