Apple might be working on a new iPad Pro version, as the company struggles to remain close to rival Microsoft whose Surface lineup keeps growing and is expected to get new models soon.

The new iPad Pro could come with a 10.5-inch display, according to some new evidence that reached the web yesterday, and would be based on the same approach as the other two models that are currently up for grabs, though it could also boast some other exclusive features that Apple has been working on in the meantime.

At this point, there are two iPad Pro models on the market, with 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch displays, but it’s believed that the first version would be replaced with this new 10.5-inch configuration.

There’s no ETA available at the moment, but Apple is expected to host a press conference this spring to introduce a series of upgrades to its devices, including new iPhone colors, plus this new iPad Pro.

Microsoft’s 2-in-1 offensive

Seeing Apple investing so aggressively in 2-in-1 devices might be a little bit surprising given the fact that the company originally considered this market a waste of time, but at the same time, it also shows that Cupertino doesn’t want to leave Microsoft to rule the premium side of the business.

Although there are several other OEMs building 2-in-1 devices running Windows, Microsoft continues to lead the market with its Surface lineup, which is also expected to receive some new models as soon as this spring.

The Redmond-based tech giant could take the wraps off the new Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 in the coming months as well, after it pushed back the release date from the typical fall launch.

Microsoft will launch the new Windows 10 Creators Update next month and there’s a chance that the company uses this opportunity to introduce new Surface devices as well, using its own hardware as pioneer of the updated operating system.
