Nearly seven months after introducing a new design to the Apple Music app with the release of iOS 10, Apple has updated Apple Music for Android to version 2.0 with essentially the same redesign.

Apart from small differences here and there, the newly updated Apple Music for Android has an interface that closely resembles its iOS counterpart. As with the iOS redesign, the Android revamp is aimed at, in Apple’s own words, bringing “greater clarity and simplicity to every aspect of the experience.”

Now, Apple Music for Android indeed looks clear and simple, with bold typography and imagery across the app’s different sections. Using the updated app on your Android app, you can:

  • Navigate your Library with an improved menu and see all of the downloaded music that you can play on your device while offline
  • See recommendations in For You that highlight mixes, playlists, albums—selected for you based on the music and artists you love
  • Visit Browse to more easily see exclusive releases, find curated playlists for any mood or activity, and discover the most important new releases
  • Listen to Radio more easily — clearly see what’s live on Beats 1, hear your favorite shows on demand, or choose a curated station for any genre of music
  • Play music with an improved Now Playing experience — read lyrics for songs as you listen

Compatible with devices running Android 4.3 and up, version 2.0 of Apple Music for Android is available now on the Google Play Store for free.

Apple Music is offered through a free three-month trial period or via a monthly subscription priced at $9.99 for individual membership, $4.99 for student membership, and $14.99 for family membership covering up to six users. Membership is available across all platforms and devices supported by Apple Music, including iOS, Apple Watch, CarPlay, Apple TV, Mac, PC, Sonos, and Android.

While it has made sure to make Apple Music available on Android as it competes against the cross-platform likes of Spotify and Google Play Music, it appears that Apple Music for Android is far from being one of Apple’s priorities, seeing as it took over half a year before the app was brought on a par with its equivalent app on iOS. But as the saying goes, better late than never.

Apple Music for Android was released in November 2015, five months after Apple Music was originally launched on Apple’s platforms. It is one of only three apps that Apple has developed for iOS’ biggest competitor, the others being the migration helper Move to iOS and the companion app Beats Pill+.
