AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Races Past Intel Core i7-7700K

Someone jumped the gun on AMD and released the results of their tests on the Ryzen 5 1600 processor. While the test was not authorized, it does help heighten the hype surrounding the new processors as it proved that the Ryzen 5 1600 is better than the Intel Core i7-7700K.

A Spanish website called El Chapuzas received the new processor and proceeded to conduct its own set of tests. In the tests, the AMD Ryzen 5 1600 garnered a base clock speed of 3.2 GHz with boosts of up to 3.6 GHz. The Ryzen 5 slightly performed better than the Core i7 in terms of video encoding while also garnering a score of 1,123, higher than Intel's stock speed, in the Cinebench R15 rendering test.

It's a common practice for tech manufacturers to provide samples of their products to review sites before the official launch. This allows the publications to try out the hardware and release their own review just in time for the products launching. According to Digital Trends, the reviewers are normally required to sign an agreement to not disclose anything about the product to the public before its official release. El Chapuzas, however, stressed that it did not sign any agreement thus they are not liable for any offense regarding their early disclosure. The worst that could happen is that it stands to lose the trust of AMD and other companies who are serious about keeping their top secret products secret.

Forbes noted that the Intel processor only has four cores and eight threads as compared to the AMD Ryzen 5's six cores and twelve threads. The $350 Core i7-7700K CPU is also more expensive than the AMD processor which will retail for only $219.

A comparison between the AMD Ryzen 5 1400 and the Intel Core i5 7400 also showed that the former is generally the better processor though the Intel CPU did perform better in terms of gaming. Like the Core i5-7400, the Intel Core i7-7700K also fared better in gaming as compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 1600 but that's basically the only thing going for it in the battle between processors.
