Xiaomi has released its Mi 6 smartphone in China with 6GB RAM and dual-cameras. It is sporting some incredible hardware at a greatly affordable price. It has impressive glass body, too. It comes with relatively small screen of 5.15 inches. The company has ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack in favour of the USB Type-C ports.

Most top-line flagships such as Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6 are sporting large screens. But Xiaomi Mi 6 has not followed the trend. The company has incorporated stereo speakers in its flagship, and unlike other flagships in the market from other companies, the basic variant of Mi 6 also comes with a whopping 6GB RAM. However, water and dust-resistance capability is still missing. The smartphone has a 5.15-inch IPS LCD Full HD display with a screen resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels and 428ppi.

There is Corning Gorilla Glass 4 screen protection on the top. It is powered by the 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor and Adreno 540 GPU. In the storage segment, the Mi 6 comes with 64GB and 128GB variants and 6GB RAM. It comes with Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box. Xiaomi’s MIUI is on the top. There is a 3,350 mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 4.0. The fingerprint sensor is embedded on the Home button. It also comes with a variety of other sensors, such as, accelerometer, gyro, proximity and compass.

Connectivity options offered by the Xiaomi Mi 6 are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, 2G, 3G, 4G LTE, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C. The smartphone comes with a dual-camera setup. There is a 12MP sensor with standard wide-angle lens and also a 12MP sensor with a telephoto lens. There is dual-tone LED flash and a PDAF for the rear camera. Mi5’s 4-axis OIS is also present. The selfie camera is of 8MP. As far as the prices are concerned, the 64GB variant costs ¥2,499 (AU$490 approx). The 128 GB variant costs ¥2,899 (AU$560 approx).

There is another premium ceramic variant of the Mi 6, and it costs ¥2,999 (AU$580 approx). The smartphone is available in blue and gold colour options. As is already evident, the flagship from Xiaomi is half the price of Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus, another popular high-end phone that has a dual camera system. It is also half the price of the Galaxy S8 that uses the same chip as the Mi 6. Stay tuned on IBT AU for more updates on the Xiaomi flagship.
