Did you know that the first mobile apps arrived in the distant 1994 on the IBM Simon? Although users of this one couldn't download apps on this smartphone predecessor by any means, they had access to stock apps like a built-in calculator, contact book, clock, news, stocks, and even an early precursor to Google Maps!

Since then, apps have skyrocketed in terms of quality and quantity, as well as availability - getting an app these days is as easy as launching the app store and immediately getting bombarded with tons of software that's vying for the sacred right to make its way to your phone's storage.
