VR-ready Dell Inspiron 27 AIO has a 4K display, Windows Hello, Cortana far-field support

Dell has unveiled a new 27-inch all-in-one PC, described as "a VR and entertainment system for the home". The Inspiron 27 7000 AIO has an IPS LCD with ultra-thin bezels and up to 4K resolution, giving it a sleek and stylish design.

The "virtually borderless InfinityEdge" display leaves no room for the integrated webcam to sit above the screen, as it does on most other devices. Instead, the camera is positioned below the display, along with an infrared sensor supporting Windows Hello facial recognition, for password-free biometric login.

The Inspiron 27 7000 also supports Cortana far-field speech recognition, just like the new Harman Kardon Invoke speaker powered by Microsoft's digital assistant. The PC has quad array digital mics which should enable users to comfortably interact with Cortana through voice from further away, rather than having to be close to the machine while speaking with it.

Dell says the rear cover of the PC is removable, "providing access to the HDD as well as SSD storage and memory for easy future upgrades". Key specs of the Inspiron 27 7000 AIO include:

  • 27-inch IPS LCD with Full HD or Ultra HD / 4K resolution
  • Up to AMD octa-core Ryzen processors
  • AMD RX500 Series graphics
  • Up to 16GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM
  • Up to 1TB HDD + 256GB SSD storage dual-drive configurations
  • 1 x HDMI-in + 1 x HDMI-out
  • 2 x USB 3.1 Type-A
  • 2 x USB 3.1 Type-A with Power Sharing
  • 1 x USB 3.1 Type-C
  • 2 x USB 2.0
  • 3.5mm audio jack
  • RJ45 10/1000/1000

The Inspiron 27 7000 AIO launches today in China, and will be available "at select retailers worldwide in the coming weeks", starting at $999.99. In addition to the 27-inch all-in-one, Dell also revealed a new 24-inch model today.

"The new Inspiron 24 5000 AIO is engineered for video streaming and multimedia experiences with the new SmartByte technology that helps prevent buffering when streaming content," Microsoft said today. "The software detects critical network streams and prioritizes video ahead of less urgent network traffic, so videos and movies run without interruption."

The Inspiron 24 5000 is only available with Full HD resolution, but its display is a touchscreen, which isn't offered on the 27-inch machine. It has 7th-generation AMD processors, and AMD RX560 graphics, and also includes Windows Hello support, Cortana far-field support, USB-C ports, and dual-drive storage options. It goes on sale today in China, and will be available in other markets around the world in the next few weeks, priced from $699.99.
