AppleInsider podcast talks about the end of the iPod, the future of AR, and manufacturing in the US

Victor loves VR glasses SO much.

This week on the AppleInsider podcast, Neil and Victor talk about the death of the iPod, Apple's latest patent for AR googles, Foxconn manufacturing in the U.S., and much more.

AppleInsider editors Neil Hughes and Victor Marks discuss:

  • The death of the iPod. Because really, is an iPod touch an iPod or a neutered iPhone? No more Classic, no more Nano, no more Shuffle. One iPod touch in the lineup.
  • Victor thinks the Apple Watch replaces the iPod.
  • Cochlear implant that's compatible with iPhone, iPad, and presumably Apple Watch.
  • iPhone rumors: no white bezel, and possibly launching in October or November.
  • A leaked part, which looks to Victor like a wireless charger for an unannounced iPhone.
  • Apple confirms that they aren't going to upload information on the inside of your home to Apple from HomePod - info on your floorplan stays inside your house. Unlike Roomba, who see this as a revenue stream.
  • Apple patent shows map points of interest augmented reality, hand tracking, and a head mounted display.
  • Victor talks through some of the coolest AR demos. The point is that about a year from now, AR becomes so casual and normal that you don't even realize you're using it.
  • Foxconn's made in America plans.
  • Adobe Flash is dead. It's been dead for years, but Adobe is going to stop distributing it and help wean providers off of it.
