Fall Creators Update looks set to include eye-tracking capabilities, Microsoft has revealed in a new blog post.

The Redmond-based company has included an early version of its new accessibility feature in the latest Windows Insider beta build.

Dubbed Eye Control, the feature is designed to empower people with disabilities to operate an on-screen mouse, keyboard, and text-to-speech experience with only their eyes.

Those who want to test-out the functionality will need a compatible eye tracker, like the Tobii Eye Tracker 4C.

Microsoft says Eye Control only supports the US English on-screen keyboard for now, although it’s clear the US company is moving quickly with this feature.

“We are looking to expand to more keyboard layouts in the future,” Microsoft Software Engineer Dona Sarkar wrote on the official company blog.

“We are excited to release this experience as a beta and would love your feedback!”

Eye Control already looks like an incredibly powerful feature.

For example, when using the keyboard, the user only needs to dwell at the characters they want to type and the software handles the rest.

But while that might seem a little arduous, Microsoft has enabled shape-writing on the Eye Control keyboard.

Once the feature is switched on,  users can form words by dwelling at the first and last character of the word, and simply glancing at everything in-between.

The desktop operating system will provide a hint of the predicted word on the last key of the word. If the prediction was incorrect, you can simply select an alternative prediction provided.

Microsoft says it is working with additional hardware vendors to provide customers a broader set of hardware options for Eye Control.

For those who aren’t signed-up to the Windows Insider program, Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will land in autumn.
