AMD Ryzen Threadripper Processors And X399 Motherboard Pre-Orders Are Live!

There's a whole lot of excitement surrounding AMD's Ryzen Threadripper, which is widely expected to be the most potent weapon that AMD's had to do battle with against Intel on the enthusiast desktop in quite some time. Ryzen 7 helped secure AMD's mainstream positioning, whereas Threadripper pits the new architecture versus the top-end of Intel's stack - such as Core i9 Skylake-X.

As we've covered previously, AMD's top-end Threadripper is the 1950X, priced at $999. This 16-core chip offers 32 threads, while the 1920X, priced at $799, shaves 25% of the cores and threads off. While the 1950X gives us the first consumer 16-core, the 1920X likewise gives us the first consumer 12-core. We're still waiting on Intel to make its next 10+ core move.

Of course, a high-end beast like Threadripper needs a good base to properly strut its stuff, so thankfully, some TR4 motherboards have begun hitting Amazon, as well. That includes GIGABYTE's X399 Aorus Gaming 7, coming in at $389. You didn't think these boards were going to be cheap, did you? For that $389, the board packs a huge feature-set and awesome aesthetic (even LEDs around the PCIe ports). Better still, while quantities last, the board can also be had for the same price, but include a free $50 Steam gift card.

Those wanting to go the ASUS route and don't mind shelling out a bit more for a motherboard should look at the company's Republic of Gamers ZENITH EXTREME, priced at $549. Yup - that's a lot for a motherboard, but it isn't going to be the last TR4 board to hit etail, so if you want something a bit more modestly-priced, you'll want to exercise some patience. You might not want to hold off too long though, as it's expected that anything relating to Threadripper is going to fly off the shelves quick!
