S&P 500 Futures: Watch These Three Sectors This Week

Futures for the S&P 500 index, Nasdaq 100 and Dow Jones industrial average were fractionally higher Monday morning.

X Last week, the Nasdaq composite edged lower, even with Apple (AAPL) and Tesla (TSLA) surging following earnings reports. The Dow industrials continued to climb to new highs, extending a winning streak to nine sessions. The S&P 500 index edged higher.

Nasdaq 100 futures rose nearly 0.1% above fair value. S&P 500 and Dow futures were slightly higher.

Earnings season is now past its peak. But there are a number of notable sectors reporting in force this week.

Chinese Internets

Five Chinese internets report this week: YY (YY,) Sina (SINA), Weibo (WB), Autohome (ATHM) and NetEase (NTES). YY, Sina, Weibo, Autohome and NetEase all boast best-possible 99 Composite Ratings. The Composite Rating combines several proprietary IBD ratings. Long-time winners often boast Composite Ratings of 95 or better near the start of their runs.

Sina and Weibo are near buy points, with Sina owning a majority of Weibo. NetEase is also in a short consolidation, though it's a four-stage base that can be riskier.

Department Stores

A number of retailers, including department stores Macy's (M), Kohl's (KSS), Nordstrom (JWN) and J.C. Penney (JCP) report earnings. None of these retailers is performing well in the face of competition from Amazon (AMZN) and Wal-Mart (WMT), but investors will be looking for any signs that one or more is finding some success.

Media Giants

CBS (CBS), Walt Disney (DIS) and 21st Century Fox (FOXA) also are reporting. All own network and broadcast channels. How are they faring regarding viewers, subscribers and advertisers in the face of a massive shift in viewing habits to Netflix (NFLX), Hulu and other streaming services.

Other Earnings

Highly rated fiber play Lumentum (LITE), graphics-AI-automotive chip play Nvidia (NVDA) and struggling social network Snap (SNAP) are among the others reporting.
