Acer Launches Chromebook 11 C771 With 11.6-inch Display And Rugged Design
Acer has been on the Chromebook bandwagon since it began and has learned a thing or two about the platform. The biggest lesson is that any electronic device that is primarily intended for the education market needs to leave fragility at the door. To that end, Acer's new Chromebook 11 C771 packs a few performance upgrades into a rugged design that is not going to shatter into a thousand pieces if dropped.
That is not just for the benefit of kids who are still developing their motor skills, but also school administrators, teachers, and everyone else involved the hustle and bustle of a busy school day. The same can be said for business users, though the audience outside of education is a bit smaller when it comes to Chromebooks. Either way, the Chromebook 11 C771 boasts compliance with US Military Standard MIL-STD-810G. What does that mean?
For one, Acer drop tested this sucker to 48 inches (122 cm). Armed with rubber bumpers around the display and a corner shield structure, this laptop can tolerate some bumps and bruises. It also features a spill-resistant keyboard, so whether it is a student knocking over a carton of milk or a teacher spilling a cup of coffee, there's a good chance this Chromebook will live to tell about it.
On top of all this, the internal design sports a honeycomb structure to defend the laptop from up to 132 pounds (60 kg) of downward force on the top. That means it can support a stack of books or a backpack being plopped on top of it.
Beyond the ruggedness, the Chromebook 11 C771 comes with both touch and non-touch options for its 11.6-inch IPS display, both of which have a 1366x768 resolution. It's powered by 6th generation Intel Core i7, Core i3, and Celeron processor options and up to 4GB of RAM.
Initial models will ship with an Intel Celeron 3855U processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage. T he touch model (C771T-C1WS) will go for $330, while the non-touch variant (C771-C4TM) will be priced at $270. This will ship this month, followed by Core i5 and Core i3 models being made available in September.
