This week’s Carpool Karaoke included Game of Thrones actors Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner, and singer Ariana Grande and Family Guy creator and Peter Griffin voice actor Seth MacFarlane.

Carpool Karaoke thus far

So far, Carpool Karaoke had been met with middling to negative reactions. While Apple has managed to draw in some big names to appear in the series, the show has been criticized for losing much of the fun and spontaneity of the original Late Late Show sketches, in favor of overly scripted content and plugs for various products.

Apple’s previous reality show, Planet of the Apps has also been met with negative responses for much the same reasons.

Fortunately, it seems that Apple may be about to turn the corner in terms of its original TV output. Apple will reportedly spend $1 billion over the next ten years developing 10 scripted series on a similar budgetary level to HBO’s Game of Thrones. Apple has also recently hired a pair of former Sony execs who helped bring to the screen shows including AMC’s Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, and Netflix’s The Crown.
