Announced September, released November - the iPhone 8/X still pegged for supply drama
While the iPhone 8 (or X, or Edition, or whatever Apple calls it) may come as a boon to parts suppliers, with some of them "expected to see their iPhone revenue almost double this year," it is also a challenge to develop and produce for everyone involved which may lead to initial supply bottlenecks. While that notion has been entertained multiple times already, today we are seeing a worrying iPhone 8 release delay report straight from the Korean supply chain, and very close to the announcement date of September 12.

"We started our shipments from late August... Apple has not yet informed us the exact supply volume as it was still fine-tuning hardware specifications for the OLED iPhone until last week," tips one supply chain source, as if to confirm most analysts' opinion that Apple won't ramp up the all-screen iPhone production until much later than the announcement date. There's also a claim that the handset won't start shipping until November, or that "even if the OLED iPhone is launched in September, it will be available in an extremely limited quantity," according to another source in the report.

This all ties in with the predictions of storied Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that the iPhone 8/X/Edition won't have more than 2-4 million units up for shipment on launch day, whenever that will be, and the supply bottlenecks might eventually stretch all the way to November. Early bird gets the worm.
