The iPhone 8 may be set to debut at next week’s September 12 media event, but according to a new report the actual OLED handset itself won’t ship until October.

That is in contrast to the lower end LED iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus devices, which will ship one week after the September media event. In other words, if you want the best of Apple’s new handsets, you may have to be prepared to wait!

Coming soon (but not as soon as you might like)

No reason is given in the report for why the OLED iPhone 8 may be delayed, but this isn’t the first time that we’ve heard something similar. A previous report from Digitimes suggested that Apple was suffering, “technical issues related to the lamination process of curved OLED panels, and the adoption of a 3D sensing system.” As a result, it was suggested that Apple might delay, “the launch of its next-generation iPhone to October or even November, instead of September as usual.”

A separate report claimed Apple has faced multiple supplier problems with the iPhone 8, as manufacturers hit roadblocks relating to the handsets’ display, wireless charging and printed circuit boards. This allegedly delayed the iPhone 8 component manufacturing process by one or two months.

Big storage, big price

The latest iPhone 8 reports have claimed that Apple will ship two separate storage configuration versions of the iPhone 8 — with a 64 GB option costing $999 and a 256 GB model for $1,099. Another report claimed that Apple could also release an unprecedented 512 GB model.

The premium price tag reflects the new top-of-the-line components Apple is employing, such as OLED displays and 3D sensing camera, which will be used for unlocking the phone in place of Touch ID. For all the details concerning Apple’s next generation iPhone 8, check out our preview here.
