Microsoft may be rebranding Skype for Business to Teams

It was just under three years ago that Microsoft rebranded Lync as Skype for Business, but not to be one to stick with any particular naming scheme for too long, the company may now be changing it again, this time to Teams. Teams is a service that was announced last November as a group collaboration tool to compete with Slack.

As Mary Jo Foley reports, when signing into Skype for Business today, a number of users said that they saw the message, which has since been removed. Of course, Microsoft hasn't announced a change, or released an official statement.

Combining the two services isn't an entirely surprising move. Teams' instant messaging is built off of Skype, and has a focus on Office 365 integration. Clearly, there's quite a bit of overlap between both of them.

On the other hand, Microsoft might just be testing a name change, with nothing planned for actually combining the two. It seems likely that we'll find out more at the firm's Ignite 2017 conference, which is taking place later on this month in Orlando, Florida.

Neowin will be at Ignite, so make sure to check back in for all of the latest Microsoft news later on this month.
