A YouTube blogger who spent 11 days camped outside an Apple store in Sydney to be the first to get his hands on the new iPhone 8 has revealed he is actually giving the device away.

iPhone fanatic Mazen Kourouche says he’ll be keeping his trusty 7 Plus model, at least until Apple’s new flagship X device is released on November 3.

The patient 20-year-old explained he queued up outside the store for more than 260 hours so he could give the iPhone 8 to his mum, as well as grow his online following.

“I’m not going to use this phone, I’m sticking to my 7 Plus,” he told Daily Mail Australia.

“There’s no point keeping something I won’t use, so I’ll probably just give it to my mum.

“She’s probably going to tell me she doesn’t want a phone like this - she’ll just use it for text messages, not much else.

“She thinks I’m crazy doing this.”

The Apple fan hopes his persistence to be at the front of the queue will pay off and help grow his YouTube business.

“I had someone ask me if I'd take $50,000 for this position right here,” he said last week. “I actually don't know unless I'm in that situation but being first may get me 50,000 subscribers which would get me $50,000 in the long run, so I'm thinking macro rather than micro.”

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, which have just gone on sale in the UK, are the first smartphones from Apple to support wireless battery charging, as well as an improved camera and screen specifications.
