An email supposedly sent by Apple CEO Tim Cook to address this week’s Las Vegas shooting appears to be fake.
The message, purportedly sent to all Apple employees, called on them to stay strong in the wake of Sunday’s horrific attack, which left more than 50 dead.
Cult of Mac initially reported on the supposed email, which was posted Tuesday by Reddit user QuestionsEverythang. Multiple Reddit users now claim the message is actually fake, and several Apple employees emailed Cult of Mac saying they did not receive such an email, either.
We asked Apple to confirm whether the supposed email is legitimate or not, and will update this post when we hear back.
More than 50 people were killed and hundreds more were injured Sunday night when a shooter opened fire into a massive crowd gathered at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, a country music event held on the Las Vegas strip.
The attack, apparently carried out by a lone gunman from high up in the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, is one of the deadliest in U.S. history.
Cook addressed the horrific shooting Monday morning on Twitter.
“Our hearts are with the victims in Las Vegas, their families and loved ones who are grieving this morning,” he wrote.

Team,
My heart goes out to everyone affected by one of our country’s worst tragedies in recent history. The impact of these horrible events, not just in Las Vegas but also in cities like London, Paris, and Orlando, it resonates with all of us. We can feel their pain, their agony, only imagining their hearts break.
As the sun rises on this October morning, let’s live a new day and cherish our lives and those we value in our lives, for evil does not sleep. It is nightmares like these that ultimately bring us together through our greatest fears and we are able to find comfort and solace with each other. And at the end of it all, humanity will be a shining beacon of hope that brings us all together while understanding the reality of what happened.
Our country is at our best when we fight through adversity. This is a time that we’ll never forget, and that’s going to be problematic. But we will band together, we will rebuild, and our country will be stronger than ever.
I’ve always looked at Apple as one big family and I encourage you to reach out to your coworkers if they need someone to talk to, not just for this event, but for any problems they may be having with their lives.
