Apple is opening its new flagship store in Chicago on Friday evening. Here are 5 things to look for when you get there.
Pavilion: The glass-walled store sits next to a new outdoor park and gathering space that cascades down to the Chicago River, complete with trees and seating.
A huge new screen: Meant for presentations, art and product information, the 11-foot-tall, 25-foot-wide screen backs up to the river.
Leather balls for seating: Alongside the short white oak stools facing the large screen are leather balls for those who want to work on their core while watching presentations.
New product displays: Apple revamped the way it displays its products, breaking them into various sections, including a wall lined with iPhone cases of different colors and materials, which customers can take down and try on their phones for size and look. Another bay displays a line of headphones. Others include iPad covers, photography products and one dedicated to accouterments, which the company calls “Essentials,” including plugs, chargers and adapters.
Boardroom: Beyond the communal seating throughout the store, there is a separate, private boardroom with muted lighting, a video screen, orchids, art and a board table for private meetings. The room is designed for use by the public, particularly technology entrepreneurs and coders.
