SINGAPORE - HP has launched a wearable virtual reality (VR) backpack for commercial use.
Unlike other VR solutions, the $4,999 HP Z VR Backpack offers an untethered VR experience as the computer is built into a lightweight backpack weighing around 4.6kg. It works with the HTC Vive VR headset (Business Edition), which is sold separately. Hot-swappable batteries let users work without interruption. The backpack turns into a desktop computer when attached to its docking station, which supports two 4K displays.
HP said it is ideal for product development, employee training, walk-through simulations and immersive customer experiences.
The PC maker also announced other new commercial products, including laptops, desktops and workstations.
The EliteBook x360 1020 G2 ($2,399) is touted as the world's thinnest and lightest 2-in-1 convertible at just 1.13kg. It can switch between five different usage modes, from a clamshell laptop to a tablet for taking notes. The EliteBook 1040 G4 ($2,399) is a slim business laptop with the latest Intel processor while the HP EliteOne 1000 All-in-One computer (from $1,899) features a pop-up camera unit with a camera on each side for video conferencing.
For businesses that require more powerful computers, the desktop-bound HP Z Workstations (from $2,399) can be configured for a range of demanding tasks, from 3-D simulations to editing 8K videos in real time.
Meanwhile, the HP ZBook x2 ($2,699) can be detached from its keyboard to become a tablet suitable for content creators. Users can choose a 14-inch 4K multi-touch screen with support for over 1 billion colours and 100 per cent Adobe RGB coverage.
HP also launched refreshed versions of its premium Spectre 13 and Spectre x360 laptops. This year's Spectre 13 ($2,399) ultrabook adds a touchscreen (up to 4K resolution) and is powered by a new quad-core Intel processor. The Spectre x360 ($2,399) has a foldable 360-degree hinge that lets it convert between tablet and laptop forms. It now comes with an integrated privacy screen, the latest Intel processor and an infrared front camera with facial recognition.
