Apple may beat Samsung in 4Q17 in smartphone sales

While Samsung (SSNLF) has been the leader in smartphones in terms of units sold, Apple (AAPL) may be catching up. According to the latest research from TrendForce, Apple could overtake Samsung in 4Q17.

According to TrendForce, total global smartphone production shipment reached 384 million units in 3Q17, a 6% increase from the same quarter last year. The research firm expects that number to rise to 424 million during 4Q17 as the holiday season kicks in. Apple’s new iPhone X hit the stores on November 3 and has seen a great response so far.

Apple to have another stellar quarter

According to the research firm, Samsung had a global market share of 24.7% back in 1Q17, while Apple had a 16% market share during that period. The tables have turned since then, as the graph above suggests. TrendForce estimates that Apple will have a 19.1% share in 4Q17.

Apple is also expecting another blockbuster quarter. The company is estimating revenues in the range of $84 billion and $87 billion for its fiscal 1Q18, which ends in December.

Apple just reported its best quarter in two years last week. It saw growth in key areas including China (MCHI). The tech giant’s stock has soared by over 50% this year, breaching the market cap of $900 billion on Wednesday, November 8.
