Microsoft today unveiled a trio of updates to its suit of developer tools that are designed to improve the workflows for people building modern applications.

Visual Studio Live Share will allow developers to collaborate on projects. The feature shares code between people on a team so that everyone can work together on the same project within their preferred editor or development environment. It’s designed to speed up the process of software development by letting developers tackle tough problems together.

Azure DevOps Projects is a feature that’s designed to help developers set up modern build and deployment pipelines using Microsoft’s cloud. While some developers are familiar with the process of spinning up source code repositories and connecting continuous integration and deployment tools to them, it’s not a universal skill. This service is supposed to make that a one-click process.

Visual Studio App Center, previously known as Visual Studio Mobile Center, has entered general availability. That suite of services is supposed to help users build better applications through remote testing with the Xamarin Test Cloud, sharing beta software with users through HockeyApp and other services.

All of this is part of Microsoft’s continuing efforts to help developers become more effective on its platforms. By making it easier for devs to use Microsoft Software and services, the company can drive consumption of Azure offerings that will produce continuing revenue for Microsoft, even if the developers using those services aren’t building for Windows.

The announcement comes as part of the company’s Connect conference for developers, which is taking place in New York today. Microsoft revealed a smorgasbord of new capabilities, including a host of improvements for its Cosmos DB managed database service and new tools for Visual Studio that are designed to help developers build AI systems.
