Have you found yourself unable to continue a conversation without the use of a drunk emoji, a female supervillain or a strand of DNA?

If so, you may be pleased to hear that the Unicode Consortium has released its Emoji 11.0 beta to developers, offering a glimpse at the 130 Draft Candidate emojis we may be able to enjoy sometime next year.

The nonprofit group will make a final verdict on which new emojis to include early next year. The finished products should roll out to customers in the second half of 2018.

Apple’s designs for the new emojis for 2018 may differ slightly from those created by the Unicode Consortium, but likely will be substantially the same.

Other notable new emojis in the draft list include male and female superheroes, men and women with red hair and a variety of skin tones, men and women with dark curly hair, men and women with white hair, bald men and women, legs, feet, teeth, bones, hiking boots, women’s shoes, lab coats, assorted animals and more.

Heck, there’s even a pirate flag in case you want to pay homage to the Macintosh!

It’s all about the new emoji!

iOS got its last emoji update back in October, when iOS 11.1 introduced a slew of new illustrative designs in its the updated emoji collection. These included a number of new characters from Unicode 10, spanning various animals, faces, foods, clothing, mythical creatures and more. (iOS 11.1 also brought some nice improvements to existing emojis.)

Knowing how popular emojis are, there has been a push in recent years to greatly expand the number of them available. The Unicode Consortium strives to make sure the new emojis cover different genders, ethnicities and job types. Like, you know, supervillain.

Either way, look for most of these emojis to land on iOS around the time of iOS 12. For now, you can check out a full catalog of the proposed designs here.
