Which apps have a proper dark mode? That’s the urgent question on the lips of every obsessive nerd who owns an iPhone X and wants to squeeze the best possible battery life out of it.

Why dark mode?
On all previous iPhones and iPads, dark mode is something that goes easy on your eyes when reading late at night. Some people even prefer it aesthetically. But on the iPhone X, using dark mode can seriously extend battery life. That’s because the iPhone X uses an OLED screen. Regular LCD/LED screens use a full-screen backlight behind a grid of pixels. That backlight is always on. To show black, the pixel grid does its best to block all the light behind it.
This is clearly a waste of energy, and it also results in compromised blacks, because some light always bleeds through. In OLED screens, on the other hand, the individual pixels light up. This means that a dark section of the screen doesn’t use nearly as much power as a bright section.
Thus, dark mode on the iPhone X is a real power saver, using less than half the juice of usual light modes. And Dark Mode List offers a long list of apps that support dark mode. Currently 56 apps are listed, from the big names (OmniFocus, Tweetbot) to the less well-known (Canary Mail, doloTrack).

Now, picking an app just because it has a dark mode is probably not a great idea (plus, you can always use the Smart Invert option to roll your own dark mode for all apps).
