The next version of Windows 10 might be called the Spring Creators Update [Update]

Typically, Microsoft announces the names of Windows 10 updates months before they're released. The Fall Creators Update was announced in May before being released in September, the Creators Update was announced in October 2016 before it came out in March 2017, and the Anniversary Update was announced in March 2016 before it was generally available that August.

With the next version of Windows 10, codenamed Redstone 4, just a couple of months away, one might think that Microsoft has done the sensible thing and decided not to give it a fancy name. Common sense would dictate that it's simply called version 1803, but it would seem that we're destined to see the Spring Creators Update.

Microsoft kicked off its Bug Bash yesterday, offering a number of Quests to Insiders that they can try out, attempting to find bugs. Obviously, the company's PR team didn't give these Quests a thorough read, though. One Quest made reference to Windows 10 Home in S Mode, leading to us finding out about new SKUs of Windows. Another, observed by IT Pro Today's Rich Hay (@WinObs), actually refers to the Spring Creators Update.

This will be the third Creators Update, and it's likely to be confused with the original, which was also released in the spring. Microsoft enthusiast and MVP Michael Gillett seems to have a good idea of what the company is up to, although he clearly forgot about Creators Update: Tokyo Drift.

For our sanity, we'll just have to assume that nothing is finalized just yet. After all, Microsoft hasn't announced anything. In fact, typically the company holds an event to show off everything that's coming in the next update, and it didn't do that either. Instead, it just released the new features in Windows Insider Preview builds.

We've reached out to sources at Microsoft regarding this, and we'll let you know when we hear something. Naturally, this new version of Windows will be finalized by next month, so it won't be long before Microsoft announces something.

Update: Microsoft has now removed the 'Spring Creators Update' name from the Feedback Hub Quest, instead replacing it with "our R4 update".
