HP made a number of announcements at Solidworks World today. Among those are new configurations of its Z4 Workstation. Along with the Xeon configurations that are already available, you'll now be able to get it with Intel's X-series processors, including the Core i7 and Core i9.
That means that the device can be configured with up to an 18-core processor that's clocked at 4.4GHz. It also comes with up to two extreme graphics GPUs, including AMD Radeon Pro WX 9100 or Nvidia Quaddro P5000, both of which come with 16GB of memory.
HP says that the new chip options are aimed at VR development, game development, education, rendering, animation, and software development. The Xeon W configurations will continue to exist in parallel with these, and that's aimed at civil engineering, finance, geospatial, healthcare, automotive, and aerospace and defense.
Indeed, there is no simple answer to whether a Xeon or Core processor is "better". Both chips can easily perform better than the other under certain workloads, so before deciding which model you need, you should certainly evaluate that.
The new models of the Z4 Workstation are available now, and they start at $1,499.
