MicrosoftMicrosoft is continuing its mission to make Edge a better browser on iOS by adding 3D Touch support. The app’s latest update adds Peek and Pop — plus a bunch of other new features and improvements.
Edge, the default web browser for Windows 10, made the leap to iOS last November. It’s not one of the most popular third-party browsers — a lack of iPad support isn’t helping — but it’s a great option for those tied into the Microsoft ecosystem. And it keeps getting better.
Edge picks up Peek and Pop
Microsoft’s latest Edge update adds support for 3D Touch, allowing those with compatible devices to Peek and Pop. When you’re browsing the web, you can press (not tap) on a link to preview it without actually leaving the webpage you’re currently viewing.
Microsoft has also added the ability to search within a webpage, to send links to Edge from other apps via the Share Sheet, to specify the content region for the news feed on the New Tab page, and to open links in background tabs by long pressing on them.
You can also specify Outlook as your default email client within Edge, so that any email links to tap will summon Outlook instead of Apple’s built-in Mail app.
iPad support is coming
No, there’s still no support for iPad just yet. Microsoft insists, however, that it is “in the works,” and that we should “stay tuned” for future updates. The latest Edge release brought support for iPhone X’s edge-to-edge Super Retina HD display, so that’s something.
