Leaked photos of an apparent iPhone X Plus display have been published on a Chinese forum.

The device is expected to get its official unveiling this fall alongside a refreshed iPhone X and a more affordable handset with an edge-to-edge LCD display. The leaked displays are said to be from a “production equipment trial run” by LG Display.

Long-time iPhone Plus fans were disappointed that an iPhone X Plus wasn’t introduced last September. Its edge-to-edge design with slimmer bezels is perfect for large displays. But according to reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo — and others — an iPhone X Plus is planned for 2018.

These photos are said to reveal the iPhone X Plus’ display and digitizer for the first time. They were posted on a Chinese forum before being removed hours later, but according to the source, they were taken in an LG facility that is already carrying out a production trial.

The size of the display isn’t mentioned, but it certainly looks larger than the iPhone X’s 5.8-inch Super Retina HD screen. Kuo expects the iPhone X Plus to carry a 6.5-inch OLED display. Its “notch” appears to be around the same size, despite recent rumors that claim it will get smaller this year.

Commenters on the forum noticed that the flex cables at the bottom of the display carry a part number, which matches formats Apple has used before. This suggests the pictures could be genuine, but we still recommend that you take them with a pinch of salt for now.

The iPhone X Plus is expected to look almost identical to the iPhone X, only larger. It is thought Apple has tasked LG with manufacturing all of its 6.5-inch displays for 2018, with rival Samsung, which currently manufactures iPhone X displays, being pushed out.

Three new iPhones are planned for 2018

iPhone fans will also get a cheaper option this fall, recent reports have claimed. The device will be slightly larger than iPhone X, with a 6.2-inch panel, but it will use LCD technology as opposed to OLED so that it can be more affordable.

The device is also expected to lose out on 3D Touch, and it could carry just one rear-facing camera rather than two. Apple is expected to give it Face ID, however.

We will likely see more leaks like this one ahead of an iPhone event this fall, so Apple’s plans should become clearer over the coming months.
