The privacy screen settings to receive substantial makeover

Microsoft has often been accused of spying on users with Windows 10 given it collects telemetry data to correct bugs and improve certain features, and the company has tried several times to address all these concerns with improvements to privacy controls.

And now another such update is prepared for Windows 10 Redstone 4, as Microsoft is testing several privacy settings approaches with the help of the Windows Insider program.

What Microsoft plans to do is test several privacy experiences when installing Windows 10 in an attempt to determine which one is the right way to go for the production version of Redstone 4.

Several approaches currently explored

While some users will be provided with a single screen to review all their privacy settings, other will receive seven individual screens getting them through the entire wizard. This will include recommended Microsoft settings for what the company calls “the best Windows 10 experience,” and these options will be distinguished by a dotted line.

“These customers will also now be given a separate screen to enable improved inking and typing recognition. By enabling improved inking and typing, customers help us improve suggestion capabilities of applications and services running on Windows such as handwriting recognition, autocompletion, next word prediction and spelling correction in the many languages used by Windows customers,” Marisa Rogers, WDG Privacy Officer at Microsoft, explained.

In addition to the new privacy experience offered when installing Windows 10 for the first time, users will also be allowed to review privacy settings at any time in Start > Settings > Privacy.

Windows 10 Redstone 4 is projected to be released this month, so Microsoft is working around the clock here to get the new privacy experience ready for this upcoming update. The software giant is yet to announce the name of the new Windows 10 update, but more information in this regard, including specifics on the launch date, should surface in the coming days.
