The 6th generation Apple iPad is finally here! Even though the line has been extended to accommodate a wide demographic, this new model is specifically geared towards the education environment, as it supports the Apple Pencil, but more importantly, schools can order them at the discounted price of $299.

If you've ever owned an iPad, there's nothing out of the ordinary with the packaging. On the front, we have a scaled profile view of the new iPad's svelte 7.4mm frame, which is undeniably skinny, but not as razor thin as the iPad Air 2 or iPad Pro 9.7-inch. Flip it around the back, you have some detailed information about the specific iPad model – like its color and capacity. Inside the packaging, you'll find the following things.

  • iPad
  • Lightning to USB cable
  • USB Power Adapter
  • Documentation

Looking at this iPad intently, it could be easily mistaken for a rose gold color, just because at certain angles, the shade tends to appear pink. Nevertheless, it's solidly constructed just like its predecessors. Setting it up is a breeze, especially if you happen to be using another iOS device. Rather than having to manually go through the steps of getting it connected online, the setup process will transit all of that information from your existing iOS device to the new iPad – so it'll automatically connect to the same network.

While the interface hasn't drastically changed from before, the biggest thing we needed to get acquainted with was utilizing the new gesture for navigating around the interface. Take for example accessing the navigation bar when inside of an app, or even accessing the control center – you'll need to swipe up from the bottom portion of the display to get to them. Luckily, it seems as though the five-finger gestures are still supported.

We'll be testing out the new iPad in more detail over the next few days, as well as putting it through our usual array of tests for a proper in-depth review!
