HP today announced what it's saying is the world's first Chrome OS detachable, the Chromebook x2. It comes in a tablet form factor, and the keyboard and pen are included in the package.
What makes this interesting though is that when the keyboard is attached, it functions as a laptop. There's a hinge in the keyboard, so there's no kickstand on the tablet, as it's not necessary. All of the 48Wh battery is included in the tablet portion though, so it's unclear how top-heavy the device will be.
As you'd expect from a Chromebook 2-in-1, it also includes full access to the Google Play Store, so users can play their favorite games and use other Android apps. It also has dual Bang & Olufsen speakers, so watching movies through the Netflix and Hulu apps should sound pretty good.
It's powered by a Core m3-7Y30 processor, along with 4GB or 8GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. The screen is a 12.3-inch 2400x1600 IPS LCD, and it includes pen support, meaning that you can use it for taking notes, or for various other things like drawing.
Chrome OS convertibles are beginning to get more popular with the inclusion of the Google Play Store, and with Google making its own Pixelbook convertible. The HP Chromebook x2 will be available from HP.com and Best Buy beginning on June 10, and starting at $599.
