Microsoft also drops hint of “April Update” moniker

While Microsoft hasn’t yet announced the public launch date of Windows 10 Redstone 4, the company is expected to begin the rollout and ship the final bits to the first wave of systems this week.

Microsoft has touched all milestones ahead of the official unveiling, so this certainly makes sense, especially because this week aligns with the April target that the company had in mind for Redstone 4.

The new OS feature update is labeled as Windows 10 version 1803, and this is a direct hint to the launch date. The first two digits represent the year when the RTM build was compiled, in this case 2018, while the last two are an indicator for the month – for Redstone 4 it’s March.

Therefore, Windows 10 Redstone 4 RTM was compiled in March 2018, and as per Microsoft’s typical release schedule, the public rollout begins one month later. In other words, Redstone 4 should launch in April for production systems worldwide.

Windows 10 April update

We’re now in the last week of April, and with the RTM build already available for all rings in the Windows Insider program, it certainly makes sense for Microsoft to push the go-ahead button anytime soon.

We’re being told that Tuesday could be the day when the first systems might get the new update, though it could happen any day except Friday, as Microsoft needs to collect post-release information and doing this on Friday means the Windows team would have to work during the weekend.

What Microsoft hasn’t yet announced is the name of Redstone 4. The company, however, included one hint in the latest build, calling the release “April update” on the home page of Microsoft Edge browser.

This aligns with the previous speculation that Redstone 4 could launch as “April 2018 update,” yet right now it appears that the company is even giving up on the year for a simpler moniker.
