It appears that AMD is preparing to release a low energy consumption processor as part of its Ryzen series of processors. The AMD Ryzen 7 2700E has surfaced online recently and it’s seems to have a TDP of 45 Watts only. TDP or thermal design point can be best described as the maximum amount of heat that’s generated by a computer chip that the cooling system in the computer is designed to dissipate under workload of any sort.

The lowered TDP suggests that the AMD Ryzen 7 2700E may have a lower base clock and lowered turbos. However, that’s to be expected if you’re looking for more energy efficiency from a processor.

This recent leak isn’t the first time that this processor has surfaced. ASRock’s CPU compatibility chart for recent motherboards also listed the Ryzen 7 2700E SKU in addition to the Ryzen 5 2600E and the Ryzen 3 2300X.

If the leaked specs are believed, the Ryzen 7 2700E will feature a base clock of 2.8 GHz and a 45 Watts TDP with a 4MB L cache. The 3DMark system info result also shows that they Ryzen 7 2700E is most definitely an 8 core SMT-enabled hyperthreading processor with a base clock frequency of 2.8 GHz.

AMD is yet to confirm this SKU officially but it’s just as likely that this chip will simply emerge in an OEM product in the not too distant future.
