Apple's lawsuit to protect the "iPad" name in China was rejected, reports Fox News.

A company called Proview registered it in 2000 before selling the global trademark to IP Application Development, a British company, in 2006 for just over $55,000. Apple in turn bought the trademark from them.
But Proview says the Chinese trademark wasn't part of that deal because the company's Taiwan unit didn't own it at the time. Now Proview is seeking $1 billion or more in compensation from Apple.
If this continues to play out against Apple's favor, it will have to call the iPad something else when selling it in China.
