Oracle has launched Advanced Analytics, which combines Oracle’s Data Mining offering with the Oracle R Enterprise language.

With this new bundle, the open source R programming language is now fully supported in Oracle Database 11g. [1] Oracle’s enterprise customers will now be able to run complex queries like statistical computations and predictive modeling directly inside the Oracle database in a highly scalable fashion using the R language. Oracle competes primarily with SAP and IBM in the business intelligence software and analytics market.

Oracle Advanced Analytics will also enable R programmers to run scripts in Oracle’s Big Data appliance. It can also be used in conjunction with Oracle’s Business Intelligence suite and the Exalytics appliance.

Enabling the R scripts to run directly within Oracle’s database will significantly improve processing and query execution speeds for customers due to much faster performance, especially for computations that are run regularly.

"Oracle is committed to meeting the challenges of Big Data analytics. By building upon the analytical depth of Oracle SQL, Oracle Data Mining and the R environment, Oracle is delivering a scalable and secure Big Data platform to help our customers solve the toughest analytics problems," said Andrew Mendelsohn, senior vice president, Oracle Server Technologies.

Oracle aims to offer a complete stack of tightly integrated hardware and software for enterprise Big Data needs, to boost sales of its database, middleware and application software offerings which account for nearly 80% of Oracle's Trefis price estimate.
