No idea is too crazy for Tim Cook, but you might be crazy if you opt for a real mountain lion over an operating system update. And while Apple may be pulling the iPad from unauthorized Chinese retailers, the auditors are pulling out their clipboards and shaking their heads over Foxconn’s factories. The remainders for Friday, February 17, 2012 are not pulling your leg.
Apple’s Mac Makeover (Wall Street Journal)
Apple CEO Tim Cook sat down with the Journal to dish on the announcement of Mountain Lion, and laid out the company’s philosophy: “We think about everything. We don’t close things off.” When pressed further, Cooked explained: “What if you could flip the image on your screen so everything’s backwards and you can only read it in a mirror? What if your Mac could give you a finger massage while you were typing? What if we could produce an edible device that tasted like a fine steak dinner? It’s all on the table.”

You might be wondering: How does OS X Mountain Lion compare to a real Mountain Lion? Jeff Somogyi’s glad you asked. Amazon Removes Resellers’ iPads From Sale in China (Wall Street Journal)
Earlier this week, it appeared that Amazon China and other vendors in the country had removed the iPad from sale due to a trademark tiff. But now sources says that’s untrue—instead, those vendors were reportedly not authorized to sell the device in the first place. Also, if you’re wondering about the source of that trademark claim, it turns out that “iPad” is Chinese for “classic iMac ripoff.”
Foxconn Auditor Finds ‘Tons of Issues’ (Bloomberg)
So much for those “first class” facilities. Fair Labor Association chief Auret van Heerden says that the group uncovered “tons of issues” on a surprise inspection. And I’m pretty sure they didn’t mean “of The New Yorker.”
The Ultimate Steve Jobs Collection (Chill)
Looking for video of every Steve Jobs appearance? You may be in luck: One fellow has collected them all onto a single page, from his early days at Apple to the memorial given in his honor on Apple campus last fall. Now if only we could make them all say “insanely great” at the same time—that’d put a dent in the universe, for sure.
