Dye a White Macbook

Sure, most of the projects we have here save you money or help you organize your life, but sometimes we do things for fun, like giving instructions on how to use clothing dye to change your white Macbook to something more colorful.

Modification weblog Brain Deadlock came up with the process. Take apart the Macbook, separating the plastic parts from the metal parts. All glossy plastic pieces will need to have their glossy surface removed by sandpaper, and then cleansed with denatured alcohol. Fill a pan that is at least an inch deep with 4 cups of water, 2 packages of powdered RIT dye, 2 tsp of table salt, stir, and heat the mixture on your range. Place the parts to be dyed when the water starts to boil. When you remove a part, if you're happy with the dye job wipe it down with a paper towel and cold water. You can always re-dye parts that don't look good, but be careful that small parts might warp due to the heat. Once everything is dry reassemble your Macbook.
